Paramount+ Reveals Frasier Revival First Look, Premiere Date

Paramount+ unveils the premiere date for its upcoming revival of Frasier, starring Kelsey Grammer, as well as several first look images.

Paramount+ has announced the premiere date for its upcoming revival of Frasier, alongside new images from the show.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Frasier fans will be able to see new episodes of the classic comedy series for the first time in 19 years on Oct. 12 on Paramount+. CBS will also give the show a broadcast sample airing with two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Kelsey Grammer reprises his role from Cheers and the original Frasier as Frasier Crane. The revival will follow Frasier "in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill."

A Frasier revival was first mentioned by Grammer in 2018 and officially confirmed by Paramount+ in 2021, with filming on the 10-episode season taking place earlier this year in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. The fan-favorite character first appeared, played by Grammer, in a recurring capacity in Seasons 3 and 4 of Cheers before joining the main cast from Season 5 onward. Following the conclusion of Cheers, NBC debuted the spinoff Frasier, which ran from 1993 to 2004.

Who Is And Isn't Back for Frasier?

Grammer previously described the upcoming revival as a "third act" for its titular psychiatrist and radio host. Returning alongside Grammer in the new Frasier will be Bebe Neuwirth as Dr. Lilith Sternin and Peri Gilpin as Crane's former radio producer Roz, reprising their respective roles from Cheers and Friends. David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves, who played Frasier's brother Niles and sister-in-law Daphne, respectively, in Frasier will not appear in the revival. John Mahoney, who played Frasier and Niles’ father, Martin, died in 2018. With Frasier moving back to Boston, it remains to be seen if any of his former Cheers co-stars will make a guest appearance in the new show.

Joining Grammer as a series regular on Frasier will be Jess Salgueiro as the spontaneous and outgoing Eve, who is roommates with Frasier's now-grown son, Freddy, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott. Anders Keith, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Toks Olagundoye are also part of the cast, portraying Frasier's nephew David, who was born in the original series finale; Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor Alan Cornwall; and Oliva, the head of an Ivy League university psychology department.

Cheers and the original Frasier series are currently streaming on Paramount+, with the revival set to premiere on Thursday, Oct. 12.
