R.L Stine's Zombie Town Gets First Trailer and Release Date

The trailer for Zombie Town, the latest on-screen adaptation of an R.L. Stine novel, gives fans an exciting glimpse at the highly anticipated film.

R.L. Stine's Zombie Town, starring Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, will hit theaters on Sep. 1.

Viva Pictures released the first trailer for the film, which sees Amy (Madi Monroe) and Mike (Marlon Kazadi) uncover a centuries-old secret when they watch a movie reel that turns the actors into the living dead. The duo tracks down filmmaker Len Carver (Dan Akroyd), who enlists the help of Mezmarian (Chevy Chase) to help break the curse before their town is overrun by zombies. The clip also features some hilarious encounters with the undead.

Zombie Town is based on Stine's 2012 novel of the same name, which sees a quiet town upended when 12-year-old Mike and his friend, Karen, watch a horror movie called Zombie Town which causes the characters to leap off the screen. Directed by Peter Lepeniotis, filming took place in the city of Sudbury in Ontario, Canada, in Sep. 2022 and wrapped after four weeks. The family-friendly movie was released in Canada on Aug. 18.

Zombie Town Set to Thrill Audiences on the Big Screen

"We are delighted to bring the pages of R.L. Stine's Zombie Town to the screen and equally thrilled to be working with such an exceptional cast and crew on this production," John Gillespie, founder, and executive producer at Trimuse Entertainment, previously said about Zombie Town. "A three-time Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award winner with book sales of over $500 million, R.L. Stine has a phenomenal track record of crafting stories that engage and entertain audiences."

Zombie Town is the latest book from Stine to be adapted into film or television. The most notable include the live-action 1995 Goosebumps series, which adapted various stories from the novels of the same name. Each episode presented a stand-alone horror story aimed at a young audience. Based on Stine's anthology series, The Haunting Hour featured a collection of scary stories with different characters and settings in each episode from 2010 to 2014.

A Goosebumps live-action series is currently in the works at Disney+. The first season, consisting of 10 episodes, follows five high school students who release supernatural forces upon their town and must work together to save it. Along the way, they discover secrets about their parents. The series stars Justin Long as Nathan Bratt, Ana Yi Puig as Isabella, Miles McKenna as James, Will Price as Jeffm, Zack Morris as Isaiah, Isa Briones as Margot, Rachael Harris as Nora, and Rob Huebel as Colin.

Zombie Town will hit theaters in the United States on Sep. 1.
