Gen V Star Opens Up About Sharing The Boys Spinoff's Gender-Shifting Supe Role
Gen V's London Thor talks about collaborating with co-star Derek Luh to bring gender-shifting Supe Jordan Li to life in the Prime Video series.
Gen V casting two actors to portray the same character wasn't a problem, according to one of the stars involved, London Thor.
Thor opened up about splitting the role of Gen V's gender-shifting Supe Jordan Li with Derek Luh in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "It's been really easy sharing a character with Derek," she said. "When we first met, it was kind of an immediate click -- we both had similar thoughts. We both were open to talking about the character and open to each other's opinions. We built this character from the ground up. Luckily, I don't know how, maybe just the fact that we've been stranded in Toronto [filming] for four months together, we managed to take on each other's personalities sometimes. Our characteristics are pretty similar. It's been great having a partner like that."
Thor isn't alone in raving about the experience of filming the upcoming spinoff to Prime Video's The Boys, either. Luh also had plenty of positive things to say about the production in a recent interview, reserving particular praise for the quality of the show's scripts. Notably, Luh described the teleplays for Gen V's initial eight-episode run as "on the pulse of what it's like to be a college student in today's age." The star added that Gen V Season 1 is ultimately a portrait of what it means to be part of Gen Z, when "everything is recorded."
Gen V Star Teases the Spinoff's Big Mystery
These relatable coming-of-age elements will apparently be offset by Gen V's more fantastical elements, including a sinister mystery brewing within the halls of Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. Lead actor Jaz Sinclair recently teased this aspect of Gen V Season 1's story, revealing that her character, Marie Moreau, will make it her mission to uncover the conspiracy at Godolkin University, although it will mean giving up on her dreams. "[Marie's] choosing to be a real hero and to do the right thing, even if it is at her own expense -- even though she's wanted more than anything forever to be in the Seven," Sinclair said.
True to form for the Boys franchise, Marie's investigation will result in considerable carnage on campus. This meant drenching more than one cast member in fake blood during principal photography, as Sinclair's co-star Lizze Broadway recalled in a recent interview. Broadway also noted how difficult the fake blood was to remove, which resulted in her turning to The Boys veteran Jack Quaid for advice. "He's like, 'Shaving cream and Dawn soap will be your best friend,'" she said.
Gen V is slated to premiere on Prime Video on Sept. 29, 2023.
