The Last of Us Voice Actors Return as Joel and Ellie for Theme Park Attraction
Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson are back as Joel and Ellie in Universal Studios' newest walk-through attraction for Halloween Horror Nights.
Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson are back as The Last of Us protagonists Joel and Ellie in a brand-new theme park attraction.
Universal Studios announced this year's lineup of horror-themed walk-through attractions for its annual Halloween Horror Nights event, one of which is themed after the popular video game series The Last of Us. Not only will the attraction feature familiar locations and characters from the game, but GamesRadar also confirmed that Joel and Ellie's original voice actors returned to record all new lines.
According to Lora Sauls, a spokesperson for Universal Studios Orlando, the park worked directly with series director Neil Druckmann, who also co-created the Max original TV show. In an effort to provide an authentic experience for fans of the game, the studio hired Baker and Johnson to reprise their roles.
The attraction will feature recognizable locales and scenery from the game, with a specific focus on the Pittsburgh section of the game, which Druckmann requested himself since it received a huge amount of praise from fans. Druckmann was reportedly involved in the development of the experience as a whole as well, providing consultation and advice to Universal in order to ensure the authenticity of the source material.
The Last of Us Comes to Halloween Horror Nights
Halloween Horror Nights is an annual event held at Universal Studios every fall as a celebration of horror films and media, with park-wide appearances from popular horror film characters and interactive walk-through "haunted house" experiences themed after various horror properties. Along with this year's The Last of Us attraction, Horror Nights 2023 also features attractions themed after Stranger Things, Chucky, Megan, and Universal's own classic monster films like Frankenstein and The Mummy.
Much like its other walk-through attractions, Universal's The Last of Us will be a fully immersive experience with lifelike masks modeled after the clicker and bloater enemies from the game, as well as specific details like a "weapons table" modeled after the in-game upgrade stations where players would improve their equipment. According to Sauls, the experience is meant to emulate being inside the world of the actual game, complete with rundown urban locales and a horde of infected.
The experience, along with Universal's various other attractions will be open during its Halloween Horror Nights from Sept. 1 to Nov. 4 in Orlando and Sept. 7 to Oct. 31 in Hollywood. Tickets are on sale for the event through Universal Studios' main website.
