After Secret Invasion, The New Avengers Must Come Together Quickly

The MCU has been dealing with a lot of new threats, including Super-Skrulls. That means the New Avengers have no more time to waste.

Over the last few years, The Infinity Saga cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has slowly been taking their bows. Avengers: Endgame bid farewell to half of the original Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy changed drastically in their third film. In many ways, Phases 4 and 5 have felt like a transition period, laying the groundwork for the future. But the time is right for that new era to begin. In fact, the MCU is ready to assemble its New Avengers.

While certainly, the arrival of the X-Men into the MCU has the potential to add something different, the franchise still requires an Avengers team, a crossover force of separate but connected heroes that can have their own adventures before coming together to fight new foes. And the foes are greater than ever, with things like Super-Skrulls just recently causing trouble.

How the MCU Can Create a New Avengers Team

There are many good reasons to bring together the new generation of Avengers in the near future. One is the urgency required after the events of the Secret Invasion. The fallout of the Skrull invasion is sure to be serious, especially with a member of the team, Rhodey, having been taken captive.

There is also a My Hero Academia-esque need for a new kind of "Symbol of Peace," an established team of heroes for the world to look to in times of need for hope and trust. A sense of continuity and unity will also be quite valuable for the MCU going forward. It will keep audiences grounded in a central story as the franchise continues to feel somewhat fractured following Endgame.

Why the MCU Needs a New Beginning

It is also important to give the franchise a new beginning. Many fans have complained of late that the endless MCU films are starting to feel tired. The MCU definitely needs a new direction, and bringing together this new crew of core Avengers while definitively ending the arcs of the remaining original cast would be the ticket to creating that change. The new team also has the potential to be more diverse than the original, featuring a cast of women and non-white characters.

The MCU is in a unique position. While the comic books can never truly retire their classic characters -- fans tend to protest, and the original is eventually reinstated whenever this is attempted -- the MCU is unable to go back. So, without a choice, it's time for the New Avengers to step into the light and make an impact on the franchise.
