The Boys Season 4's "Bizarre" Homelander Tease Is Exciting & Worrying For The Same Reason

A "bizarre" Homelander tease for The Boys season 4 is exciting because it hints at how wild the season will be but also worrying for similar reasons.

A "bizarre" Homelander tease suggests that The Boys season 3 is about to take things up a notch when it comes to portraying outrageous scenes, which is concerning and exciting for the same reason. Setting the stage for its brutal superhero satire, The Boys' opening episode itself features a gut-wrenching scene where A-Train accidentally kills Hughie's girlfriend by running into her at high speed. With what follows, The Boys shows no restraints when it gives audiences a glimpse of how morally skewed and perverted supes like The Deep and Translucent can be.

Even in the episodes and seasons that follow, The Boys takes a no-hold-barred approach towards depicting gore and sex on the small screen. But after breaking new boundaries with every season, The Boys has now reached a stage where it is hard not to believe it will finally draw a line. By taking things a little too far, The Boys season 3 even suggested that the Amazon series reached its limit. However, a new tease for The Boys season 4 hints that the show is only getting started, and season 4 will be even freakier than all the previous seasons.

Homelander's "Bizarre" The Boys Season 4 Scene Promises To Top S3's Ant-Man

While The Boys is jampacked with shocking supe moments, one of the most disturbing scenes of the series is in season 3. Recreating the Thanus meme in the most disgusting way possible, The Boys season 3 shows how its version of MCU's Ant-Man, Termite, shrinks in size and hops inside the urethra of his partner to pleasure him from the inside. However, a sudden uncontrollable sneeze brings him back to his normal size, exploding his partner's lower body and killing him instantly. This seemed to be the epitome of what The Boys could get away with, but Antony Starr's tease for The Boys season 4 promises to take things further.

The Homelander star said in an interview (via Variety) that there must be a ceiling to what a show is willing to portray, but "they can’t seem to find it." Recalling a specific scene's filming from The Boys season 4, Starr stated "it was truly the most bizarre thing I’ve ever done.” Given how Homelander has already done some boundary pushing things like flaunting his obsession with milk and heat waving a man in public, Antony Starr's statement seems to confirm that The Boys season 4 will take things up a notch by portraying something even more shocking and gross than season 3's Ant-Man parody.

Why The Boys Raising Its Own Grossness Bar Could Backfire

While disgusting moments are an essential part of The Boys, the show could get too consumed by the pursuit of becoming controversial if it keeps pushing the envelope for its shock factor with each season. This would not only desensitize audiences over time and diminish the impact of its shock-and-awe action but also potentially detract the show from focusing on meaningful storylines. Therefore, to ensure viewers remain invested in its character arcs and shock-inducing moments, The Boys season 4 must strike the right balance between telling coherent stories and pushing creative boundaries.
