Netflix Drops Live-Action One Piece's Main Theme Song
The main theme song for Netflix's One Piece -- "Wealth Fame Power!" -- is here and it highlights the legacy between Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Luffy.
"Wealth Fame Power!" -- the main theme song for Netflix's live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece -- has dropped.
According to Anime News Network, the song is now available on digital platforms, and the rest of the new show's soundtrack will become available on August 31, the same day live-action One Piece will premiere on the streaming platform. The composers Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli explained how "Wealth Game Power!" reflects the connection between Gol D. Roger, the first King of the Pirates, and Monkey D. Luffy. "Monkey D Luffy's theme is the main theme of our show. Gold Roger's theme is Luffy's theme reversed. 'Wealth Fame Power' opens up with Roger's theme. It's powerful, just like Roger himself, driving, and dynamic," they stated.
"As soon as the swords are drawn and the crowd rushes out in search of ONE PIECE, we reverse Roger's theme and introduce Luffy's theme, the main theme of our show," the pair continued. "Roger's theme is all about the descending motion since this is the end of the journey for Roger. Luffy's theme, however, is all about the ascending motion since it's the beginning of his exciting adventure toward becoming the King of the Pirates."
Oda's ongoing One Piece manga first appeared in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997, and the series has well over 1,000 individual chapters. Netflix's interpretation of the story, which sees Luffy -- a young pirate captain with a body made out of rubber -- set sail with his eclectic crew in search of the eponymous hidden treasure, stars Iñaki Godoy as the future King of the Pirates alongside Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
The Live-Action One Piece Is Coming to Netflix
One Piece fans have received ample insight into what the live-action series has in store. A full trailer aired during San Diego Comic-Con and plenty of behind-the-scenes images have been released. This includes one that provides a glimpse of Luffy's Devil Fruit and another that teases what the transponder snails might look like.
Moreover, members of the cast have openly discussed their thoughts about the upcoming Netflix series and Oda's original story. For example, Rudd described how she immediately began promoting herself as a strong option to play Nami after hearing about the project. "One Piece is one of my favorite manga and I've always felt drawn to Nami in particular," she said.
Oda's manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media.
