Melissa Benoist Is Holding Out Hope for Supergirl Return
Actress Melissa Benoist, best known for her role as Kara Danvers / Supergirl within the Arrowverse, teases her comeback as the Woman of Tomorrow.
The Arrowverse's Supergirl Melissa Benoist has just given fans an exciting update on her potential return to the role of Kara Danvers in the nearest future.
James Gunn is leading the upcoming DCU reboot, and Supergirl is confirmed to receive her own feature film -- Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will reportedly be part of the new timeline. Thus, Benoist's recent update may be a beacon of hope for all the Arrowverse and DC fans. In a new Cameo video on the Supergirl star's account, the actress shared her thoughts on returning to the role that made her famous.
Benoist was saying her congrats to a fan on his birthday when she found herself reveling in nostalgia for Supergirl, a role she played for six years across a multitude of Arrowverse shows, such as Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. "I'm so happy to hear that you were a fan of the show and my character. I loved playing [Supergirl]. That's so cool you grew up watching the shows. They were really really really fun to work on," she said.
The Arrowverse star then cryptically remarked that she was still holding out hope to put on her Supergirl suit sometime in the future and revealed that she had actually taken one home when the series wrapped up. She elaborated, "Who knows if I may put on the suit again? We'll see. I have one that I sneakily took when we ended the show. Don't tell anyone. This is a secret. A big one, actually. But yeah, I do have a suit in my attic, and I would love to play the character again. We'll see what happens."
Will Supergirl Appear in Superman & Lois?
In recent years, there has been talk of Benoist reprising her Supergirl role in Superman & Lois, which is not a part of the Arrowverse. Elizabeth Tulloch, who plays Lois Lane on the show, even addressed the rumors during Fan Expo Canada 2022 in September 2022, saying, "We have not heard that rumor about her coming on the show. She has expressed interest to me in doing it, and I know that we would love to work with her again and Grant [Gustin] and everyone else. I just don't know... ever since we started the show, COVID has been a reality which is why we haven't done any of the crossovers or anything like that, so we just can't speak to whether or not that's feasible."
Benoist's performance within the Arrowverse has been praised by fans and critics alike, so her comments regarding revisiting Kara Danvers both then and now may be good news for anyone who is still expecting the Supergirl star to put on her cape and go on adventures -- whether it be in the upcoming Superman & Lois Season 4 or Gunn's DCU reboot.
