Ms. Marvel Set to Air on ABC for Broadcast Television Debut

Ms. Marvel will be the first of Marvel's Disney+ shows to be aired on broadcast television.

It has been announced that Ms. Marvel is making its debut on broadcast television next month.

TVLine reports that Ms. Marvel, which previously debuted on Disney+ last summer, is coming to ABC in August. All six episodes of the Marvel Studios series will be presented, marking the first time one of Marvel's shows that previously debuted on Disney+ will be aired on broadcast television. The first three episodes will air on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. The second half of Season 1 will follow by airing the next week on Saturday, Aug. 12, also from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

The TVLine article speculates that this could be the first of many streaming titles to be aired on television in the coming months as a direct result of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. With the strikes affecting various productions, networks may be looking to help fill some air time in the fall for shows where they'll be missing content. Meanwhile, while Marvel's delving into broadcast TV with its Disney+ content for the first time with Ms. Marvel, it's worth noting that ABC previously aired the pilot episode of The Mandalorian. CBS has also aired episodes of Paramount+ shows like Star Trek: Discovery, while NBC has broughtt Peacock's The Resort to broadcast television.

Based on Marvel Comics characters, Ms. Marvel was developed for Disney+ by Bisha K. Ali. Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, a teenage Captain Marvel fan who is bestowed with superpowers of her own. The series also stars Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Laurel Marsden.

There have been rumors and reports of Ms. Marvel getting a second season. However, as of now, Season 2 hasn't been officially greenlit at Disney+. With that said, there's still more to come from Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She will reprise her Ms. Marvel role on the big screen for the upcoming film The Marvels, hitting theaters on Nov. 10, 2023. In the meantime, Ms. Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are keeping their fingers crossed to return for a second season of Ms. Marvel.

"Just reminiscing on our time spent in the MCU," the filmmaking duo said on Instagram last year. They added, "[W]ho's ready for season 2?!"

Ms. Marvel can be found streaming on Disney+.
