The Latest Superman: Legacy Casting Suggests a Terrific Team Exists in the DCU

Superman: Legacy features both Mr. Terrific and Metamorpho, suggesting that their team, The Terrifics, could be in the DC Universe's future.

Superman: Legacy keeps having the most surprising announcements made concerning its cast, with many of these characters being separate from the Superman mythos entirely. The latest of these heroes to join the fray is the shapeshifting elemental Metamorpho, who's played by Anthony Carrigan. While it might seem random for him to have any sort of role in the film, he's likely there to establish the presence of another team.

In the comic books, Metamorpho was recently a member of The Terrifics, a group which was an expy of a certain other company's First Family. They were led by Mr. Terrific, who himself has just been cast for the DC Universe, as well. This means that the next Superman movie could see the popular team either already formed or coming together for the first time.

Who Are The Terrifics in the DC Universe?

Created by Jeff Lemire and Ivan Reis, The Terrifics (as a team) debuted in the first issue of their titular book. The name of the group stems from their leader Mr. Terrific, aka Michael Holt. The Terrifics would come together as Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho and the unscrupulous Simon Stagg were looking into the Dark Multiverse. Plastic Man came along due to his immunity to Dark Multiverse energy, and they would soon come upon a young lady named Phantom Girl. Due to their exposure to otherworldly energies, however, Mr. Terrific, Phantom Girl (an ancestor of a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes), Metamorpho and Plastic Man were now bonded together and could only move so far away from each other. Thus, they formed a team and began exploring more about the Dark Multiverse.

The Terrifics was a book that launched during the "New Age of DC Heroes" line, which lasted for two years. These titles were meant to be overt expies of concepts and characters from rival publisher Marvel Comics. In the case of The Terrifics, they acted as stand-ins for the Fantastic Four. This was reflected in their science fiction-based adventures, having a genius leading the team (and lending his name to it) and the elemental powers of certain members. Though the book itself didn't last even three years, the team has gone on to become a fan-favorite, which could influence the DC Universe movies.
