When Do New Dragon Ball Super Chapters Come Out?
Dragon Ball Super's manga is still going strong, and it has a set release schedule that's easy for fans to follow.
Unlike Toriyama's previous Dragon Ball series, the Dragon Ball Super anime ran simultaneously with its corresponding manga, rather than the anime beginning much later in the manga's run. Fans of the Dragon Ball Super anime have still had occasional feature films to satiate their need for more content, but the best place to get new Dragon Ball Super stories is in the manga.
Written by Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarou, Dragon Ball Super’s manga is a worthwhile alternative to the anime, but it’s also much more than that. Dragon Ball Super’s manga sticks closely to the anime’s story events, but there have been slight deviations, which have become fascinating case studies for fans. The specifics of the Tournament of Power, for instance, differ from the anime to the manga, even if the overall outcome remains the same. There’s never been a better time to check out Dragon Ball Super’s manga and it’s quite easy to make the jump after learning a few key details.
When Do New Dragon Ball Super Chapters Come Out?
One of the biggest obstacles that get in the way of manga readers is keeping up with an ongoing release schedule that’s not always as consistent as weekly TV releases. Dragon Ball Super’s manga has occasionally taken breaks so that both Toriyama and Toyotarou have time to properly plan their next story arc instead of foolishly rushing forward without a set outline. Looking beyond these sporadic breaks, new Dragon Ball Super chapters come out on the 20th or 21st of each month, at 11 am EST. Some popular manga work off of a weekly release schedule, but Dragon Ball Super’s monthly schedule is what works best for both Toriyama and Toyotarou.
Where Can New Dragon Ball Super Chapters Be Read?
All the interest in Dragon Ball Super's manga is useless if audiences can't actually track it down and know where to read it. In Japan, Dragon Ball Super's manga is serialized in the monthly shonen manga magazine, V-Jump. This is helpful for Japanese locals, but those outside of the country also have some helpful options at their disposal. Dragon Ball Super's English localization is handled by Viz Media, who have supported Dragon Ball manga throughout the franchise's entire run.
Dragon Ball Super's manga can be read in English, online, and for free on Viz Media's website as well as Shueisha's Manga Plus service. Both of these services feature simultaneous releases with the manga's publication in Japan, which has come a long way since the '90s when there could be a lengthy gap between Japanese publications and their official translations. These helpful services have broken down barriers and made Dragon Ball Super's manga as accessible as possible.
How Many Dragon Ball Super Chapters Are There?
It’s anybody’s guess how long Dragon Ball Super’s manga runs, but it’s currently at Chapter 97, which corresponds to 21 collected volumes. It’s exciting that Dragon Ball Super’s manga is nearing its 100th chapter – a milestone for any series – but this doesn’t necessarily mean that its story is close to its endgame. As a point of comparison, the original Dragon Ball ran for 194 chapters across 16 volumes. Its successor, Dragon Ball Z, more than doubled its length with 325 chapters in 26 volumes. There has been no indication that Dragon Ball Super’s manga will run as long as these series. However, this data at least suggests that Dragon Ball Super’s manga may only be at around its half-way point. This is an exciting possibility that means that grandiose transformations like Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego, and Gohan Beast are just the start of something greater rather than these characters' final forms.
How Many Dragon Ball Super Chapters Does The Anime Cover?
It’s a good idea to start Dragon Ball Super’s manga from its first volume. However, those who purely want to see what happens following the events of the anime series should pick up the ninth compiled manga volume and begin at Chapter 43. “Joining the Galactic Patrol!” The anime’s final story arc is the multiversal battle royale, the Tournament of Power, which reaches its conclusion in the manga’s 42nd chapter. The manga has explored three major story arcs following the Tournament of Power’s conclusion, which has provided the series with an additional 55 chapters and counting. It’s remarkable that Dragon Ball Super’s manga has reached a point where there’s more post-anime content than what’s covered in the anime’s 131 episodes. It’s a testament to how much Dragon Ball Super’s manga has established its own voice rather than merely copying its anime counterpart.
Where In The Story is The Dragon Ball Super Manga?
Dragon Ball Super’s manga is currently in its seventh major story arc, which happens to be an adaptation of the anime’s most recent feature film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. This made for a surprising change of pace since in the past there’s been a clear separation between Dragon Ball’s movies and its canonical manga and anime. The manga’s “Super Hero” story arc started in Chapter 88 and is still currently in play with its current Chapter 97. If the events of the movie are any indication, Dragon Ball Super’s manga will be focused on Super Hero’s story for at least several more chapters since Gohan Beast hasn’t even been revealed. Dragon Ball Super’s manga has expanded upon the movie’s details in rewarding ways. However, those who want to see what happens after the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero are going to have to wait at least a few more months.
In a time when it’s so easy to watch an episode of television instead of reading, it’s highly encouraging that Dragon Ball Super’s manga has found such a dedicated fandom. Audiences are hopeful that the manga’s big battles against Planet-Eater Moro, Granolah and the Heeter Force, and even Black Frieza will one day make their way into the anime series or even Dragon Ball Super video games. As it stands, these remain captivating stories that are exclusive to Toriyama and Toyotarou’s manga.
