Chris Evans draws comparisons to Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Wolf of Wall Street performance as he teams up with Emily Blunt in the upcoming Netflix movie Pain Hustlers.
Ahead of its October 27 release date, Netflix has released a high-paced teaser for Pain Hustlers which shows Blunt and Evans in the lead roles as they put aside their morals for wealth. The crime drama is directed by BAFTA award winner David Yates from a screenplay by Wells Tower. The Netflix movie is based on the 2022 book of the same name by Evan Hughes. The stellar cast includes The film stars Blunt, Evans, Andy García, Catherine O'Hara, Jay Duplass, Brian d'Arcy James, and Chloe Coleman.
“Liza Drake (Blunt) is a blue-collar single mom who has just lost her job and is at the end of her rope,” reads the Pain Hustlers official synopsis. “A chance meeting with pharmaceutical sales rep Pete Brenner (Evans) puts her on an upwards trajectory economically but dubious path ethically as she becomes entangled in a dangerous racketeering scheme. Dealing with her increasingly unhinged boss (Garcia), the worsening medical condition of her daughter Coleman), and a growing awareness of the devastation the company is causing forces Liza to examine her choices. Pain Hustlers is a sharp and revealing look at what some people do out of desperation and others do out of greed.”
Yates was inspired to make the film due to his curiosity about the pharma industry and the movie is from the perspective of the salespeople behind pushing pain medication to doctors and their patients. The director praised Blunt, describing her as the most prepared actor he ever worked with. Yates added that the British actress delves into her character, armed with a game plan each day on set. He described Evans's character "as a sleazebag pharma sales rep," which contradicts his image as a clean-cut hero that portrayed Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
