Ahsoka Episode 5 Delivers the Long-Awaited Rematch Between Ahsoka and [SPOILER]

Ahsoka's latest installment, "Part Five: Shadow Warrior," sees its titular protagonist cross blades with a fan-favorite character for the second time.

Ahsoka Episode 5, "Part Five: Shadow Warrior," just dropped, and it includes the long-awaited rematch between Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen).

The pair first cross blades early in "Part Five: Shadow Warrior," with Anakin framing the fight as the next stage of his former pupil's Jedi training. Anakin and Ahsoka resume their duel later in the episode, with the former now wielding a red lightsaber and visibly subsumed by his Darth Vader persona. The showdown between Anakin and Ahsoka marks the first time they have squared off since Star Wars Rebels' Season 2 finale, "Twilight of the Apprentice."

Reports that Anakin's involvement in Ahsoka would see him trading blows with his ex-padawan first started doing the rounds online in October 2022. These reports ultimately proved largely accurate, as they correctly predicted that Anakin and Ahsoka's rematch would spill out of an encounter between them in the mystical World Between Worlds. Other correctly forecast details included star Hayden Christensen's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith-era attire and the fact that the duel itself would be made up of more than one sequence.

Ahsoka Prop Master Reveals Lightsaber Upgrades

Lucasfilm still managed to keep many of the specifics surrounding Ahsoka Episode 5's big clash under wraps, though. This includes the behind-the-scenes upgrades made to Rosario Dawson's lightsabers, which prop master Josh Roth only revealed during the recent Destination D23 event. According to Roth, his team overhauled the laser sword props Dawson previously used on another Star Wars show, The Mandalorian, so that the batteries fit inside their slender hilts. He added that this ensured Dawson "could do all the stunts and fighting" in Ahsoka, including the duel with Christensen.

Whether Dawson will also get the chance to turn her new and improved lightsabers on Lars Mikkelsen's Grand Admiral Thrawn remains to be seen. The Imperial warlord's live-action debut is arguably the most talked about aspect of Ashoka, not least of all because Star Wars Rebels veteran Mikkelsen is once again portraying the fan-favorite baddie. Showrunner Dave Filoni addressed the decision to cast the Danish actor as the live-action Thrawn in a recent interview, noting that he pictured Mikkelsen while writing Ahsoka's scripts. "Lars is in my head," Filoni said. "The sound of his voice is kind of what I write to."

New episodes of Ahsoka premiere on Disney+ on Tuesdays.
