Lindsey Shaw Recalls the Awful Moment She Was Fired from Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars alum Lindsey Shaw reveals the reason she was let go of the successful tv series.

Those of you who lived through your teens or late childhood years in the early 00s will surely know Lindsey Shaw as Jennifer "Moze" Moseley in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. But there is no doubt that her definitive rise to fame came thanks to one of the most relevant youth series of recent years, Pretty Little Liars.

Despite having a supporting role on the show, as the romantic interest of one of the leads, the story of Paige and Emily, as well as most of the romances on the show, achieved a lot of recognition. Shaw began with small appearances and slowly gained a more important place within the story. However, suddenly, Paige disappeared from the life of Shay Mitchel's character and from the series.

In a recent episode of the podcast that Shaw hosts with her former co-stars on the Nickelodeon series, Devon Werkheiser and Daniel Curtis Lee, the actress revealed the reasons why she was fired from Pretty Little Liars (via People):

“It was so bad. I got called into Pretty Little Liars’ creator’s [I. Marlene King] office. And she was just like, 'So we're gonna let you go'. She was like, 'It's not because of your acting, but do you have anybody to talk to?' And I was like, 'No,' you know? She's like, 'Well, find somebody,' and 'We have to let you go now.'"

Shaw went further by revealing the difficult personal time she was going through, suffering from an eating disorder and abusing drug use because of it:

“When I had my problem and I was in between working on stuff, I would never have to address my relationship with food because it was like, I could always just go get more Adderall. It was really an embarrassing thing. I didn't look good, too skinny and then when I started to put the weight back on, I couldn’t handle being too heavy.”

Lindsey Shaw Eventually Came Back to Pretty Little Liars

In 2017, after seven successful seasons, Pretty Little Liars presented its finale, an outcome highly criticized by fans and remembered to this day. Despite the situation experienced with the production and after having slightly recovered from her problem, Shaw had the opportunity to return.

The actress spoke of that moment as well, and expressed how grateful she felt for the opportunity:

“It was really sweet, because they brought me back in season 7. It was so lovely of that writing team to just see that relationship [between Paige and Emily] and that character out. But it was rough.”

Paige was one of several love interests of Mitchell's character, who in the series finale ends up in a relationship with Alison Delaurentis, played by Sasha Pieterse. Alison is, in fact, the one who started the whole Pretty Little Liars conflict by mysteriously disappearing one night when all the friends were together.

In Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, one of the several spinoffs that the series had, Alison and Emily are no longer together, and it was one of the great criticisms that the new story received after fans tirelessly fought for them to end up together in the first place.
