The Harry Potter Movies Should Have Included This One Character's Death

Lavender Brown’s death in Harry Potter was never fully explored, leaving fans with a general negative sentiment towards her character.

Death was a constant companion in Harry Potter, and author J.K. Rowling displayed it on many occasions in the Harry Potter universe. From fan-favorite Sirius Black to the most tragic demise of Albus Dumbledore, Warner Bros.' Harry Potter movies managed to encapsulate the tragedy that went alongside death in the Wizarding World. However, Lavender Brown's death in the movie did not do her character justice.

Although Harry Potter technically showed her dead body for a split second in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the full extent of her death was never fully explored in the movies. It would have changed the general perception of her Harry Potter character. Warner Bros. consciously decided not to tell the whole story of Lavender's death, leaving fans without a proper conclusion for her Harry Potter character.

Lavender Brown had Some Troublesome Moments in Harry Potter

Harry Potter first displayed Lavender Brown's character during Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, but her true personality only shone through when Ron and Lavender formed a romantic relationship in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Lavender first kissed Ron after his Quidditch victory, which started their romance. Lavender's generally poor social skills and clinginess led to her becoming disliked by Harry, Ron, and the whole Harry Potter community. Not only did fans envision Ron and Hermione as a romantic pair, but Lavender was also quite quirky and eccentric rivaling divination professor Trelawney.

The more Harry Potter fans got to know Lavender, the more the general perception of her character shifted in a negative direction. Self-obsessed and egocentric were only a few words that described Lavender Brown in Harry Potter, yet the movies failed to portray the whole extent of her personality. Sadly though, Harry Potter never cared to redeem Lavender Brown, and her lifeless body was only featured for a split-second during the last Harry Potter movie. Although some Harry Potter fans might have considered this a good riddance, her death left the Harry Potter universe with many unresolved questions. According to Harry Potter history, Lavender Brown tried to defend Harry from being handed over to Voldemort before being tossed over a balcony and mauled to death by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback.

Lavender's Death Could Have Shifted Fans' Feelings Towards her Harry Potter Character

It was important to note that Lavender's death in Harry Potter was ambiguous, as some sources speculated on the actual factuality of her demise following an entry in the Pottermore that merely stated that she was presumed dead. Nonetheless, the Harry Potter books explained that Lavender's true nature came to light when confronted with the difficult decision of protecting herself or those around her. In the end, Harry Potter shows many Hogwarts students trying to sacrifice Harry for their own life, while Lavender presumably died in an effort to save Harry. It cannot be denied that Lavender Brown was an extremely self-centered and obnoxious character in Harry Potter, but not showing the completed version of her death scene kept Harry Potter fans from shifting their opinion of her character. This ultimately left fans feeling hate and disregard aimed at Lavender Brown in Harry Potter.

The Harry Potter movies left out several death scenes during the Battle of Hogwarts, with Lavender and even Lupin and Tonks' on-screen time being cut short to let viewers focus on Harry and the main events of that battle. However, the Harry Potter movies should have included Lavender's death and given her character more depth.
