Baldur's Gate 3 Developer Promises 'Gigantic List' of Changes in First Update
Developer Larian Studios promises the first patch for Baldur's Gate 3 will feature a "gigantic list" of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks.
Developer Larian Studios assured fans the first patch for Baldur's Gate 3 will include massive tweaks and bug fixes.
The developer posted an update to Steam celebrating the title's overwhelming success, with Larian Studios promising that its developers were hard at work at refining Baldur's Gate 3's gameplay experience. "We'd like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the profound joy you've given us throughout this launch," the message reads. "The love and support you've shown us has lifted us up and energized us to tackle the bugs that pop up as you do the unexpected. We've created a game where you can do almost anything with the tools and systems we give you, and with that come a lot of unexpected surprises, but as you report them, we continue to work away on fixing them with our spirits high."
Larian additionally revealed all patches will be reflected in Baldur's Gate 3's PlayStation 5 port, which is scheduled for release on Sept. 6. It continued, "We have a roadmap for hotfixes and patches, thanks to your thorough reporting and the stellar work of the support and development teams behind the scenes. We don't publish our roadmaps because we need the freedom to push and pull things around when the unforeseen happens without locking ourselves in, but we want to let you know that it's there and that we're currently working towards Patch 1, which will feature a gigantic list of tweaks and changes. We'll publish these once it's finalized."
What is Baldur's Gate 3?
Released on Aug. 3, Baldur's Gate 3 is an RPG video game based on the massively popular TTRPG, Dungeons & Dragons. The game is set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting and takes place during late 1492 DR. 120 years after the events of 2000's Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Faerûn is once again plunged into crisis when an army of mind flayers launch an invasion of the continent.
Baldur's Gate 3 received overwhelmingly positive reviews after its launch, with fans and critics alike praising the game for its engaging narrative, well-acted dialogue and detailed graphics. Despite the title's overwhelming success, Larian Studios' founder Swen Vincke revealed there were no plans to release DLC packs. Vincke explained how adding an expansion for Baldur's Gate 3 would be complicated, with the developer and CEO claiming that raising the level cap from 12 to 20 would necessitate "much more than an expansion in terms of development effort." However, Vincke also did not permanently rule out a possible expansion in the future and assured players the studio will announce DLC if and when it was ready.
